RHS Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival 2022

By Alex N

Set in the glorious grounds of Hampton Court Palace and on the banks of the River Thames RHS Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival organisers and garden designers have a lot of natural beauty and garden design history to compete with…

Show Gardens are always the highlight of an RHS show (and often have the biggest queues), but this year it was great to see River Cottage’s kitchen garden transported from Dorset to Hampton Court, complete with three-legged giant beehive.

The Connections garden highlighted the changes that happen when someone is diagnosed with dementia, and featured a stunning yarn-covered walkway.

The gold medal winner Over the Wall was set in a gloriously painted circle, with a sunrise styled yellow doorway at the end of the garden, complete with brightly coloured plants and flowers.

RHS Allotments included small gardens from allotments, with allotment holders on hand to explain how they grow and how they use what they grow. We loved the joyous yarnbombing filled Walton Charity Community Allotment.

Get Started featured some smaller gardens showing visitors that it is possible for everyone to design a beautiful green space regardless of size, gardening ability or experience, materials or environment. Including the Wooden Spoon Garden and Lunch Break Garden.

Get Growing stage featured some inspirational talks from gardeners, designers, and botanists including James Wong, Sue Kent and Joe Swift.

The Market Theatre – just in front of the River Cottage garden included cooking demonstrations by Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, Gelf Alderson (both using ingredients freshly picked from Adam’s garden just opposite the theatre)

The RHS Flower School included a demonstration from our very own Shane Connolly on environmental floristry, and the Floral Marquee had 1000s of blooms for every floral and plant fan.

The famous RHS Hampton Festival of Roses was a scented highlight – with feature roses to tempt every gardener (and some very insta-friendly rose arches).
