I really like 'Designing with Grasses' by Neil Lucas - published by Timber Press. Neil is from Knoll Gardens not far from me in central south UK - Produced Gold Medal winning exhibits at RHS Chelsea for years.

I too recommend 'Designing with Grasses' by Neil Lucas to my students as it focuses upon the most useful ornamental grasses for garden projects and explains clearly how to make the best use of them. The Encyclopaedia of Grasses by Rick Darke is a good reference work, but also includes many species only of interest for native plant restoration projects - here you need to read carefully to make sure the species is hardy in your region and not potentially a weed.
