i'm a very amateur gardener and would like to introduce roses to our garden... I would like a fragrant rose to grow on a trellis. The rose would have to be grown in a pot as its on the patio. The pot measures 80cm high. The rose would be situated in a sunny aspect. Would this rose be suitable?

Hi Louise - welcome to the community! I'm sure someone will be along shortly to help you. If roses is your thing - we work with Michael Marriott (see below) and you can do a course - it's the right time of the year coming up (as you clearly know!) to be making rose decisions. In the meantime - let's see what suggestions we get here.

Hi Louise. No reason why you can't grow a climbing rose in a large pot. Use John Innes no.3 compost - or at least a loam-based growing medium. Feed twice a year in spring and midsummer with rose food and water regularly. Louise Odier is a repeat flowering old fashioned shrub rose - lovely but not great on a trellis and you could do better. I know the name is attractive but i would choose the small, repeat flowering rambler 'Snowgoose' White, double, charming, disease resistant and deliciously fragrant. AND - its great in a pot. Andy
