Pls can someone recommend hardy annuals?

Hi there - I've developed a cutting bed (I'm in the UK)  - and heard on the TV yesterday (Gardeners World) - that now is a good time to seed hardy annuals. I'm looking for deep red flowers or dark purple.  Any ideas please?

The black cornflower is good: Centaurea 'Black Ball' I think, Also i love the black opium poppies - Papaver somniferum 'Black Peony' - short lived as cut flowers, but great seed heads. Deep red is a harder one - personally I would go for deep red dahlias for cutting and I would wait and plant tubers. If you do sow annuals now you really do have to have clean ground otherwise those annual weeds take over during winter. Think Monty's plot is fairly immaculate!

Oh that's super thanks Andy! I would love to try the Black Peony poppies - I've seen them as cut flowers. I wouldn't have thought of that. And my bed isn't quite like Monty's...it's a little more haphazard! I will post photos next year when they're up!
