Standard rose issues

My standard rose was looking poorly and diseased - black marks on leaves. I drastically pruned it. It's just a skeleton now! Do you think it will recover? I would not worry about it if it were not a standard.

Looks like a case of black spot. Remove any affected leaves and burn then, change the compost to new stuff and feed the plants very well. Don't forget to water well when needed and it should recover for next season.

Good advice Julie - I always cut my roses right back and remove all leaves if they succumb to blackspot or rust. Make sure you use a rose fertiliser when feeding and water well if the weather is dry. There is still time to get blooms late this year depending on where you are.
