What we find in New Jersey is a thriving underworld of passionate gardening organisations. Probably to be expected in the 'Gardening State'! If you want to do a gardening course or horticulture class however, and can’t travel out of state or too far – the world’s top horticulture and gardening experts are increasingly teaching gardening in New Jersey via MyGardenSchool online gardening courses.
New Jersey Horticulture Classes and Clubs of interest
The Garden Club of New Jersey, Inc. (GCNJ), founded in 1925, is a federation of individual local garden clubs throughout the state. GCNJ has over 5,000 members, age 6-adult.
GCNJ is the state affiliate and a charter member of the National Garden Clubs, Inc., a non-profit educational organization. The membership of NGC is composed of 6,218 member garden clubs with 198,595 members in the fifty states. In addition, there are 447 international affiliates, making NGC the largest volunteer organization in the world.
Rutgers Master Gardener Program
If you are interested in becoming a volunteer gardener, Rutgers is a fascinating organisation. New Jersey Master Gardeners are trained volunteers who assist Rutgers New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station (NJAES) Cooperative Extension in its mission to deliver horticulture programs and information to the general public. Anyone with an interest in gardening and a commitment to volunteer service can become a Master Gardener. No previous education or training in horticulture is required.
We also like New Jersey Gardening website called My Local Garden. My Local Garden is a New Jersey-based business with a mission to connect people to nature and grow good food. They regenerate landscapes and inspire people of all ages to implement simple sustainable solutions that can change their lives and the world. They are a group of over 100 organic farmers, gardeners, interns, apprentices, and students, who are growing food using sustainable organic practices and helping and inspiring others to do the same. Grow Your Own Food Courses are close to our hearts at MyGardenSchool and we have a lot of respect for what's being achieved in sustainable food growing solutions here.
