Is it safe to cook chicken in a slow cooker?

I'm worried I will either poison the family or the chicken will turn really tough! Has anyone done this before?

All the time. Its actually perfect because all the moisture stays in the container making a very tender dish. Some times I will put a vinaigrette over the chicken at the bottom of the crockpot. Then placed potatoes and corn o the cob wrapped in tin foil on top of the chicken. You have a complete dinner
