Please can you help me with the following question.
I have two Adélaïde d'Orléans rambling roses, which are in their third year, trained on a pergola.
They have just finished flowering and I would now like to prune them back so they don't become an enormous tangled thicket and to enable me to train in the new lateral growth around the pergola beams.
The question I have for you is, how far back to the lateral stems can I cut this years shoots which have now finished flowering?
Some of this years flowering shoots are quite long with a number of leaf nodes. Can I cut them back to the first leaf node?
