Creating Accessible Learning for Healthy Ageing

The Live Longer Better (LLB) initiative sought to revolutionise healthy ageing by scaling its evidence-based coaching and preventative healthcare strategies to a national audience of health professionals, volunteers, and citizens. Led by Sir Muir Gray, the programme required a delivery model that could translate complex physiological and psychological concepts into accessible, high-impact training delivered through a digital platform.

A key challenge was translating deep clinical and evidence-based science into practical, actionable learning that could be understood by everyone — from healthcare professionals and community volunteers to members of the public. As demand for proactive healthy ageing strategies continued to grow, the programme also needed a scalable digital framework capable of reaching thousands simultaneously while maintaining the intimacy of personalised guidance and peer support.

The brief called for accessible content and seamless platform delivery that could inspire meaningful behavioural change and support life-changing outcomes for older adults, regardless of location, technical confidence, or starting point.

Scaling the Intimacy of Medical Intervention

Replicating the high-touch experience of clinical coaching and self-evaluation at a scale would mean ensuring thousands could receive the same "expert-in-the-room" feel without a linear increase in specialist resources.

Bridging the Digital Inclusion Gap

Given the diverse demographic of the programme, particularly older citizens and varied volunteer groups, the platform and onboarding process had to be accessible and straightforward even for those with very limited technical proficiency, with technology acting as an enabler rather than a deterrent.

Driving Consistent Behavioral Change

The initiative faced the difficulty of creating a digital framework powerful enough to shift long-held cultural attitudes toward ageing and to overcome inertia in order to inspire sustained, life-altering lifestyle shifts.

Eliminating Geographic Silos

To be truly effective, the programme had to transcend the "postcode lottery" of healthcare, delivering a uniform standard of preventative training that remained high-impact regardless of the learner’s location.

solution

A Digital Learning Platform for Healthy Ageing

With Sir Muir Gray, LWE created a high-impact digital learning experience. As a core component of the Live Longer Better system, this was designed to spark a national revolution in healthy ageing.
The various versions of the courses were designed to be delivered in 10 and 12 lesson formats directly through the Learning with Expert platform. To improve inclusivity and ease of use, we developed a low-friction, intuitive onboarding process that removes technical barriers, empowering even digitally hesitant users to engage with confidence. Our end-to-end infrastructure takes a participant from a GP-delivered text message and into the classroom in less than a minute.
The result is a powerful, scalable framework of content and technology that transcends geography, equipping thousands with the knowledge to drive meaningful lifestyle shifts via preventative healthcare.

Clarity from Complexity

We provided instructional design to translate Sir Muir Gray’s pioneering science into a content-led learning journey, making sophisticated medical concepts intuitive and actionable for every learner.

Personalised Coaching at Scale

Our platform leverages interactive self-evaluation tools and asynchronous expert feedback to maintain the intimacy of a one-to-one clinical intervention while serving thousands of participants simultaneously.

Access Through Simple Intuitive Design

By prioritising a simple and safe interface and frictionless onboarding, we removed technical hurdles to make the programme accessible to older adults and volunteers of all digital abilities.

Framework for Sustained Lifestyle Shifts

The digital environment was engineered around behavioural science, using community engagement, reflective milestones, and local news to transform passive learning into a permanent cultural shift toward proactive healthy ageing.

Democratising Knowledge

We centralised cutting-edge healthcare expertise from the NHS and the University of Oxford into a single, borderless digital hub, making high-impact preventative training available to every community, regardless of local resources or geography.
