Mayo Clinic

Supporting the World's Largest Health Educator

Challenge

Mayo Clinic set out to make its world-leading expertise in Type 2 diabetes and obesity more accessible to patients beyond the US, supporting the growing demand for trusted digital health education. A key opportunity was expanding into the UK market and helping NHS patients access expert-led learning that could support prevention, lifestyle change, and long-term health outcomes.

To achieve this, Mayo Clinic needed a scalable digital learning solution capable of delivering structured, engaging education in a classroom-style format. The platform also needed to support integration with NHS infrastructure and patient pathways, creating a seamless and accessible experience for learners across the UK.

Rising burden of preventable lifestyle diseases

Millions of people worldwide are affected by preventable conditions such as obesity, Type 2 diabetes, and dementia, driven by a growing need for large-scale preventative healthcare education.

World-class experts can't reach patients at scale

There is an urgent need to help both individuals and clinicians better understand and manage these conditions earlier and more effectively.

Overstretched healthcare systems

GPs and clinicians are under increasing pressure, and health systems such as the NHS face major capacity challenges, limiting their ability to deliver preventative education at scale despite growing patient demand for guidance and support.

Access to Experts isn't democratised

While there is strong infrastructure potential, access to consistent, expert-led digital healthcare education remains uneven.

Educating patients using NHS and LWE existing digital infrastructures

By working with Learning with Experts, Mayo Clinic is delivering trusted, expert-led education at digital scale to UK citizens. This will be delivered both directly and via the NHS App, while maintaining the highest standards of quality and impact.

Scaling expert knowledge through digital delivery

World-leading institutions such as Mayo Clinic demonstrate the value of trusted clinical expertise, but there is a need to scale that knowledge beyond physical settings. Structured, classroom-style digital learning, delivered through infrastructure such as the NHS App and integrated patient data systems, offers a way for mission-driven experts to reach patients and clinicians globally without being present in person.

Re-routing patients back to GPs

There may in the future be the need to re-route patients back to their GP in real life. The LWE classroom is building pathways through the use of Sentiment Analysis and AI to route patients through to their most needed pathways

Broadcasting Live to Specific Groups

Mayo Clinic will be able to teach patients and clinicians using high-quality live streaming within the safety of the NHS or LWE classrooms, saving valuable time for clinicians, and avoiding the need to travel to train in person

“For someone managing Type 2 diabetes, the course made complex topics easy to understand and feel manageable. Dr Tara Schmidt’s clear, supportive teaching kept me motivated, and the community helped me stay on track throughout.”
